Kentucky Club Women Offer Link to Hope

By Bridget Murphy, GFWC Kentucky President

The 2026–2028 GFWC Kentucky President’s Special Project is supporting Kentucky CancerLink (KCL).  KCL’s mission is to reduce barriers to cancer screening, diagnosis, and treatment. They connect Kentuckians with free and/or low-cost screenings; provide fuel cards to help patients travel to cancer-related appointments; offer post-lumpectomy and mastectomy products, lymphedema compression garments, wigs, and headwear free of charge; and provide patient navigation services.

GFWC Kentucky clubwomen are supporting these efforts by donating fuel cards and making monetary donations to help purchase lymphedema garments. These are two of the most frequent requests received by KCL and unfortunately, these services are not covered by the many grants KCL receives.

KCL relies on donations and public fundraisers to meet these needs, and GFWC Kentucky is stepping up to help. GFWC Kentucky President Bridget Murphy has chosen this special project to honor the memory of her mother and grandmothers, who were among the 39% of women who received a cancer diagnosis. It is her hope that the generosity of her GFWC Kentucky sisters will offer a link to hope and make the cancer journey a little less difficult for others. Together, GFWC Kentucky clubwomen can help remove barriers, ease burdens, and provide hope to Kentuckians facing cancer.
